In a press conference held in Bkirki after meeting the Maronite Patriarch Beshara el- Rai, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Gebran Bassil declared that “the law based on 15 constituencies with proportional representation was launched form Bkirki and was the second choice after the Orthodox voting law.”
“We did not discuss the redistribution of seats, and all the proposals we discussed adopted the same standards as the Orthodox proposals,” he added and concluded by saying that he admitted “to all the things they failed to achieve and the things they accomplished.”
Furthermore, and according to “al-Akbar” and the “Future” Newspapers, the head of the “FPM”, Minister Gebran Bassil revealed in a brief speech that there are some ways to conclude “in one basket, a national understanding whose electoral law will constitute its essence.” He noted in this context that preparations are underway for the completion of a ” historic agreement, beyond the electoral law, with the objective of assuming the reforms and regulations relating to a good representation and reassure all national components about the future “.
The minister also revealed that he met on Thursday evening the Secretary General of “Hezbollah” Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, as well as Prime Minister Hariri, and the “Lebanese Forces” in order to carry out an “exceptional, mostly positive project for the country.” In addition, he went on to say: “not only an electoral law … a law and more.”
However, having chosen not to disclose the content of the agreement, Bassil stated “that the agreement includes all the elements of comfort to the different parties,” wondering: “if the electoral law is an exceptional event per se, what if its accomplishment were coupled with annexes, guarantees and reforms that will alleviate everyone?”
