The President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, said Monday, in a joint press conference with his German counterpart, that “dealing with the repercussions of the Syrian refugees file is an international responsibility”, calling for effective efforts to achieve the goal of “putting an end” to their suffering and ensuring their safe return home.
“The discussions focused on the fight against terrorism and the success of Lebanon in dismantling terrorist cells in northern Bekaa,” he said.
President Aoun stressed the importance of international cooperation against terrorists, recalling that Lebanon is associated with international action against terrorism.
“We took a tour of the regional developments. We agreed on the need to develop peaceful solutions to violence and wars in several Arab countries, “he said.
President Aoun stated that Germany is a great economic power while Lebanon is famous for the exchange between civilizations.
“Germany will take part in the Rome 2 Conference, Cedars conference in Paris and Brussels,” he said, urging Steinmeier to support Lebanon in the face of recurrent Israeli violations and to commit to the implementation of Resolution 1701 of the UN Security Council.
President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, for his part, expressed his pleasure visiting Lebanon, believing that Lebanon has the right to be proud of the coexistence that illustrates it.
“Coexistence in Lebanon is an example for the entire region. The economic and social stakes are enormous and caused by the Syrian displacement. We have used every means to help Lebanon and we attach great importance to the stability of this country and to the support of its armed forces, “he said.
