NNA – Maronite Patriarch, Mar Bechara Boutros Rahi, said on Tuesday that the election of a new Lebanese President was the beginning of a new dawn for Lebanon.
Speaking before a press syndicate delegation, the Maronite Patriarch expressed hope that the presidential election on Monday would run positively and bring back democracy.
“Respecting constants and electing a strong president, who is supported by popular political groups, is a must,” Rahi added, pushing for full implementation of Taef Accord , and respect of democracy.
Later on Tuesday, Rahi had an audience with Austrian Ambassador to Lebanon, Marian Werba, who paid him an acquaintance visit. The meeting had been an opportunity to tackle bilateral ties between Lebanon and Austria.
In the wake of the meeting, Werba said that the situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as the leading Christian role in the Middle East, had featured high on talks with Rahi.
The diplomat also seized the occasion to voice Austria’s support to the Christian role in Iraq and Syria.
