NNA – Hezbollah Secretary General, Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah, confirmed on Sunday that “all members of the ‘Loyalty to the Resistance’ Parliamentary Bloc shall attend the presidential parliamentary session and vote in favor of MP Michel Aoun as President of the Republic,” adding that “we do not mind if former PM Saad Hariri heads the upcoming government, in spite of the risk we would be taking on our part!”
In a televised speech marking the commemoration of the martyrdom of Hezbollah leader Hatem Hamadeh, Nasrallah said that “Hezbollah has always been in support of the election of a new President in order to end the current state of vacuum.”
Refraining from responding to the parts of former PM Saad Hariri’s recent speech waged against Hezbollah, Nasrallah noted that “In the past few days, Lebanon has witnessed a very significant event, namely the declared decision by former PM Saad Hariri in support of General Michel Aoun’s presidential candidacy.”
“It is true that Hariri attacked us in his speech, but I will solely reflect on the positive aspects,” said Nasrallah, noting that “We have opted for silence throughout the past period regarding the presidential dossier in an effort to reach a good outcome…We prefer to emphasize on the fact that the latest political developments will be resolved through dialogue, and no one in Lebanon has any intention of plunging the country into chaos and civil war, contrary to the suspicious claims of some media and certain politicians.”
Nasrallah went on to stress that “Lebanon cannot be governed through bilateral agreements between two sides in the country at the expense of all other remaining sides.”
He added: “We need a certain level of trust and frankness to approach the points of concern, and we have begun our efforts to resolve any differences so as to facilitate meeting the presidential deadline, and we are working diligently to this end.”
Over the relation between “Amal” Movement and Hezbollah, Nasrallah deemed that “our ties are much deeper and stronger than any division attempts…The relationship with House Speaker, Nabih Berri, is very strong, both at the political and personal levels…When we head to the parliamentary session, we will be in understanding towards each other, and we will remain true and faithful to our allies,” he emphasized.
“The strong relation with Amal will abort any attempt at dissent, and the same applies to our ally, MP Sleiman Franjieh, whose friendship we value, for he is an honest ally,” Nasrallah underscored, making it clear that his Party aspires for Lebanon as a secure, united and stable country.
Regarding his Party’s relation with the Free Patriotic Movement, Sayyid Nasrallah called for “preventing any attempts to distort the relation between Hezbollah and FPM,” stressing that “Hezbollah wants the presidential elections to occur and supports General Aoun in this respect, which is a decided matter!”
Touching on the regional situation, Nasrallah said “the current fierce battle in Aleppo, as in Mosul, is decisive, because armed groups have united to launch attacks against the Syrian army and its allies.”
“It’s a huge battle we are fighting in the region…Early on, we have detected the regional upheavals, starting with Tunisia…We were among the first to have realized the projects of certain countries to destroy the region, as a prelude to bringing about demographic and geographical changes,” he explained.
Nasrallah concluded by reaffirming that, “Those who rely on our tiredness and the fatigue of our families are desperate…We have always prepared for the battle with the Zionist enemy, and our continuous readiness to fight our enemies is eternal…We never become tired; it is in our genes! Let no one count on our weariness, for only our victory in Syria, the victory of our axis and the defeat of all plots of disintegration shall bring us back to Lebanon.”
