The liberation of Deir Ezzor comes after Syrian forces and allied fighters arrived on Tuesday and met besieged army forces of 137 Brigade that were positioned on the western edge of Deir Ezzor. An atmosphere of joy took place across Deir Ezzor following its liberation by the Syrian army, which effectively ended a siege of more than two years on part of the city.
AFP reported that the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad congratulated the army troops who broke, on Tuesday, a years-long ISIL terrorist group siege on the government enclave of Deir Ezzor city.
According to President Assad’s office, the latter called the commanders of troops who had been besieged in a base in Deir Ezzor and said: “Today you stood side-by-side with your comrades who came to your rescue and fought the hardest battles to break the siege on the city.”
