In two days President Michel Aoun will be representing Lebanon, all of Lebanon, at the Twenty-Eighth Arab Summit being held in Jordan, with the noted absence of Syria but with the attendance of American and Russian envoys. President Aoun’s position in Jordan will be of the utmost importance, but still more important will be his anticipated position upon his return from Jordan.
He will have a statement that points out in detail and will include the new electoral law. He will address the nation and the people and the politicians and the members of Parliament. This topic of electoral law was the speaking point and highlight during the tour of the South of Lebanon by the head of the Tayyar, Minister Gebran Bassil that included Saida and the towns of East Saida. “He who does want the law of sixty or the extension nor the void has to choose from the available options;” Despite the vagueness and pessimism Bassil said “Just like we have converted impossibilities into possibilities and truths, the new electoral law will be our next truth because there can be true reform or true prosperity or peace without this law.”
If the electoral law is the priority this does not mean that the other files will held in limbo. The government is finishing up the discussions concerning the budget and another session is due tomorrow, and after tomorrow and beyond April and come May a lot of files will see fruition. The era is springing forth.
