Ministers and local Metn and Keserwan officials reaffirmed on Tuesday their support for the Cabinet’s four-year plan to solve the country’s waste crisis.
The meeting which was presided by Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouq and Agriculture Minister Akram Chehayeb, confirmed the role of municipalities in overseeing the implementation of the plan.
Minister Chehayeb noted that “the waste crisis includes several stages which are the waste storage, removal of the waste mountain in Bourj Hammoud, which is a key condition, the development of naval construction and the setup of sanitary landfill.”
He also noted that if the Kataeb party agrees to remove the erected tent, the collection of waste will start on Wednesday.
Last month, protests organized by the Kataeb Party halted the construction of the new Bourj Hammoud landfill site. They opposed the four-year waste plan approved by the Cabinet in March.
