Prime Minister Saad Hariri received this evening at the “House of Center” the Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, in the presence of the Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon, Mohammed Fathali, and the accompanying delegation.
After the meeting, Boroujerdi said: “We had a constructive and positive meeting with Prime Minister Hariri. We congratulated him on assuming the presidency of the Lebanese government and congratulated Lebanon and the Lebanese people on the great achievement of the presidential election. We congratulated him on the New Year, and conveyed the cordial greetings of the first Vice President Mr. Jahangiri.”
He added: “As for the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, we announced the permanent and firm readiness of Iran to build on the bright, positive and constructive political circumstances that have arisen in Lebanon during this stage to promote the bilateral relations in various fields.
We believe that there is a lot of potential, in both Iran and Lebanon, that we can rely on to enhance relations in various fields, especially in economy and trade. Prime Minister Hariri focused during the meeting on the valuable and constructive role that the private sector could play in both countries to achieve this goal. We discussed the regional developments, the return of security in the region and the latest developments in Syria.”
Boroujerdi went on to indicate that, “We felt during the meeting that there is a common position in Iran and Lebanon on the importance of choosing the political road to solve the crisis in Syria. There is no doubt that stability and security in Syria reflect positively on security and stability in Lebanon, in Iran and the region in general. We agreed that the shameful and heinous acts carried out by terrorist takfiri extremist groups are not related to the Islamic religion in any way. As everyone knows, Islam is a religion of love, peace, convergence and solidarity among all.
So all of these heinous acts done by terrorists distort the image of Islam. We feel that we are facing difficult problems in many Islamic countries and we believe that the best way to address these problems is if the leaders of these countries show rationality, logic, and wisdom in their approach.”
“We hope to see more positive and constructive steps in the near future by both countries’ officials, in the way that leads to enhancing bilateral cooperation between Iran and Lebanon in various fields,” Boroujerdi concluded.
