Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil sent a letter to his Swedish counterpart Margot Wallström on Tuesday, emphasizing that “ human solidarity should not be limited to refugees that Lebanon welcomes to its land, but should be more inclusive taking into consideration the reasons that led Lebanese to take refuge.”
Bassil stressed that deporting Lebanese families, at a time when Lebanon welcomes a large number, will have negative repercussions inside Lebanon.
Swedish authorities had deported tens of Lebanese families, who had resorted to Sweden many years ago.
The Lebanese families, who had fled the country during the July war of 2006, had not been granted necessary residence accommodation to settle on its territory.
