BEIRUT: The American University of Beirut in collaboration with the National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS) is granting full scholarships and housing accommodations for 14 students who excelled in their Lebanese baccalaureate this year and have chosen to register for the year 2016/17.
AUB has announced its acceptance of 14 out of 28 students from public and private schools who have achieved the highest scores for this year’s baccalaureate exams. The university has been the first to start the full scholarship program with the help of the CNRS for over a decade.
The CNRS held a celebration at the Grand Serail sponsored by Prime Minister Tammam Salam, with the presence of Minister of Education Elias Abou Saab, and Chairperson of the Education Committee in Parliament MP Bahia Hariri.
“It is encouraging for the American University of Beirut to have been chosen by 14 out of the 28 students who have achieved the best results in the Lebanese national baccalaureate exams, especially with the availability of excellent alternatives to receive a university education,” AUB’s president Fadlo Khoury said during his speech at the Serail.
Khoury also stressed on the importance of trust between the university and its students, as well as the government, to help the students invest in their lives so they can also make a change in the lives of others.
The attendees of the celebration also included head of the National Council for Scientific Research George Tohme, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid Office Slim Kanaan, and co-director in the Office of Admissions Nadine Nafaa.
These scholarships are offered by AUB’s financial aid program. The program amounts for about $53 million for an academic year which partially covers 52 percent of the student body in terms of bachelors, masters, and doctorate programs.
