President Michel Aoun affirms Friday that Lebanon is capable of hosting regional and international events as it enjoys ongoing stability.
The president’s statement was said during a meeting with a FIBA delegation headed by its president Horacio Muratore at the Baabda Palace.
Muratore thanked president Aoun for making the tournament possible and personally attending the opening of the tournament. The latter also added that a regional office for the international basketball body will be opening in Beirut “confirming the federation’s interest in Lebanon’s role in basketball internationally and locally.”
The Palace’s media team reported that President Aoun extended an invitation to the delegation and said, “I hope that you will visit Lebanon again whether it be for sports or just for a visit, and witness that despite ongoing wars in the region, Lebanon enjoys security and stability.”
Furthermore, the President of Lebanon’s basketball federation Pierre Kakhia was also in attendance. The tournament that began August 8 will conclude Sunday, August 20.
It is to be noted that the Lebanese team was knocked out after suffering a defeat to Iran Thursday night in the second round of the tournament.
