The Syrian opposition’s High Negotiations Committee (HNC) maintains contacts with the states that supported the French resolution on Aleppo in the UN Security Council and proposes to raise the issue of the resolution at the UN General Assembly, an HNC spokesman told Sputnik on Monday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Saturday, Russia blocked the French draft UNSC resolution on the cessation of hostilities in Syria’s northern city of Aleppo. The document received 11 votes in support, two votes against (Russia and Venezuela), while two more members of the Security Council abstained (China and Angola). Russia claimed that the French-drafted resolution would help terrorists in the Aleppo area by protecting them from aerial bombing. A resolution proposed by Russia was also defeated as it failed to gain the minimum votes needed for approval.
