Lavrov Refuses to Speculate on ICC Investigation Into War Crimes in Aleppo

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday that he could not estimate the seriousness of the French authorities’ intent to ask the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the investigation into war crimes in Syria.

Earlier in the day, French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said that Paris would turn to the ICC for a consultation on an investigation into the war crimes possibly committed in Syria. Aleppo has become a battleground for government forces, jihadists numerous militant groups, including Jaish al-Islam, Ahrar ash-Sham and Jabhat Fatah al Sham, formerly known as the al-Nusra Front, banned in Russia.
