ISIS security chief killed in clashes with SDF northern Syria

ubsequent to heavy clashes with militants of the Islamic State (ISIS), the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Monday made new gains in the northern countryside of Aleppo, killing and wounding dozens of ISIS militants, military sources reported.

The SDF troops clashed with ISIS fighters in the Sabaa Bahrat district of Manbij city, north of Aleppo. ISIS has reportedly retreated from the district after suffering heavy losses in manpower and equipment.

The ISIS security chief Safi Yahya Rajab was also killed in Monday’s clashes.

“Our forces advanced into the Hazawna neighbourhood of Manbij and attacked a major security centre for the terror group. Yahiya was among those killed in the Hazawna operation,” a spokesman for the SDF told ARA News in Manbij.

“After the clashes, we seized control of the Sabaa Bahrat and Hazawna districts, and we collected more than 25 dead bodies of ISIS militants, including that of Yahiya, who was known as the security chief of ISIS in Manbij,” the official said.
