REPORT: Attack on army position in Bekaa Sifrin kills one soldier

Unknown gunmen opened fire on Sunday overnight at an army position in in the Bekaa Sifrin town in Dinnieh.

Two soldiers were initially wounded in the shooting, but one of the soldiers had succumbed to his wounds.

The Lebanese army is heavily deploying now in the region and is carrying raids in search of the gunmen.

This as sources told LBCI that the army is also carrying investigations to reveal the circumstances of the incident.

The sources added that more information about the incident will be known as soon as the injured soldier will get out of the operating room.

Areas of northern Lebanon have seen a number of security incidents in recent years, especially near the Syrian border, often in a spillover from the civil war next door.

The army regularly fires on jihadist militants in the border area around the town of Arsal, about 60 km southeast of Tripoli.
