On December 5, during the UNSC meeting Russia and China voted against a draft resolution on Syria.
The draft resolution, co-sponsored by Egypt, New Zealand and Spain, proposes a 10-day pause in Aleppo. Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov slammed the initiative as a provocation aimed to help militants regroup and strengthen forces.
“Considering the way previous pauses passed, we have no doubts the 10-day pause for militants will be used by the extremists to regroup and recover strength and will therefore impede the liberation of Eastern Aleppo,” the minister said.
