In a press release by the Delegation of the European Union to Lebanon, it said: “The EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, Gilles de Kerchove, will visit Lebanon on 1 and 2 March to attend a high level meeting on the National Counter Terrorism Strategy, which is jointly organised by the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Union.”
Release added: “de Kerchove will be accompanied by experts in counter-terrorism from the EU, EU Member States, and CEPOL (European agency for law enforcement training).
The high level meeting on the National Counter-Terrorism Strategy will be co-chaired by Mr de Kerchove and the Secretary General a.i. and Director of Political and Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Charbel Wehbi.
The EU experts and representatives of the concerned Lebanese ministries and security agencies will attend the meeting.”
Release said: “The EU officials’ discussions with the Lebanese authorities and security agencies will focus on developing a national strategy on counter-terrorism. They will also address better ways to strengthen coordination between concerned stakeholders to tackle this challenge affecting peace and stability in Lebanon, the Middle East region and Europe.”
