NNA – The head of Change and Reform parliamentary bloc, Michel Aoun, said on Sunday that respecting the national pact is the first step in the process of building the motherland.
Aoun, who spoke during the mass demonstration organized by the Free Patriotic Movement to commemorate the events of 13 October 1990 in Baabda, praised the martyrs of October 13, “who made the supreme sacrifice for the sake of sustaining the homeland.”
He vowed to continue on their path, and fulfill the promise he made on the day of their martyrdom.
In his speech, which was transmitted on a huge screen to allow the crowds to follow the events, Aoun reiterated his resolve to press on until the dream of a strong and sovereign nation that encapsulated all its components was achieved.
In his words, the first step in the process of rebuilding the country was respecting the national pact and the participation of all confessions in power, without “malice, isolation or oppression.”
“The building of the nation can happen through a return to the standards of loyalty to the state and renewal of political elites through a fair electoral law, and investment in the wealth of the country,” said Aoun, adding that the grievances of the people must be heard and solutions should be found for the crises of everyday life.
He concluded that the blood of martyrs would always be the light that guided his actions.
