NNA – President Michel Aoun received on Tuesday evening a telephone call from US Secretary of State, John Kerry, congratulating him on his election as President of the Republic.
Kerry stressed the United States’ support for Lebanon, and its commitment to assisting the Lebanese Army in its battle against terrorism.
Kerry pointed out that his country and the international community were looking forward to the formation of a new government in Lebanon, as soon as possible.
President Michel Aoun, for his part, thanked Kerry on his congratulatory call and stressed “the importance of continued US aid to the Lebanese Army which endeavors to promote security and stability in the country.”
President Aoun said “reaching a quick political solution to the Syrian crisis will reflect positively on the situation in Lebanon and its various aspects, especially in terms of finding a solution to the tragedy of displaced Syrians in Lebanon.”
