NNA – “Lebanese Forces” parliamentary bloc member, MP Antoine Zahra confirmed that the election of a strong president would restore to the state its affluence, adding “this is what we are seeking to achieve by electing MP Michel Aoun as president.”
“Lebanese Forces head Samir Geagea intended to reach this day when he supported MP Michel Aoun’s candidacy to presidency in order to revive the strong Republic, ” Zahra told “Sawt Al-Mada’ radio station on Saturday , adding that Geagea’s step came after thorough thinking, precise considerations and calls to March 14 allies to adopt this support as well.
He pointed out that the slogan which they rose upon Lebanese Forces head Samir Geagea candidacy to presidency was the “strong state” and they are still committed to this slogan as they support Aoun’s candidacy.
He stressed that they would not save any efforts over all levels to secure Aoun’s election as a president.
Zahra explained that they back solving all rising problems, especially with Speaker Nabih Berri because “it is better to have consensus on Aoun as a president”.
Responding to a question, he pointed out that many parties will rebel against Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s choice to support Aoun’s candidacy, adding ” but he (Hariri) is a leader who is capable of unifying people who were shocked with his initiative.”
Zahra praised Hariri on his initiative especially his words that “he is ready to do anything to save Lebanon.”
Zahra noted that Lebanon before 20 October 2016 is different than that after this date, adding that Hariri’s stance would be a major step in ending presidential vacuum and hoping that this would be achieved as soon as possible.
Zahra noted that Speaker Nabih Berri’s objection to the election of MP Michel Aoun as a president should be solved in order to avoid any problems that might stem out between the Speaker and Hizbullah, expecting that the election of a president might be postponed for that reason.
However, the MP hoped the election of a president would take place at the upcoming parliamentary presidential session on 31 October 2016.
