“The new figures indicate that the reserve is estimated at 600 billion dollars,” Geagea said on Thursday during a dialogue gathering in Meerab titled: “Gas and Oil in Lebanon: Proper Governance.. Promising Future” organized by the LF attended by scores of political, diplomatic, economic and media dignitaries.
The Conference comes as a continuation of last year’s conference which was held under the headline of “Promoting Transparency in Gas and Oil Sector in Lebanon” in Meerab.
“Unfortunately, everyday there is news of unacceptable corruption happening in one aspect of the Lebanese administration, thus making it difficult to convince citizens about the possibility of improving the existing reality in the Lebanese state,” Geagea said.
However, Geagea noted that practical and reform measures can restore hope to the Lebanese people in this regard.
He urged all to cooperate together to reach the desired outcome, hoping that gaz and oil exploration will occur in Lebanon in a proper manner and without any corruption.
Reading out Water and Energy Minister Cesar Abi Khalil, Head of Legal Affairs at Lebanon Petroleum Administration (LPA) Gaby Daaboul voiced keenness on adhering to our full rights to our maritime waters, saying that both the Ministry and LPA accord the issue of transparency utmost importance in this dossier.
He called for devising the Sovereign Fund law, as a continuation of transparency procedures and give positive signals about the proper management of this wealth in the future and preserving it for our future generations.
