Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil emphasized the importance of not neglecting the issue of Syrian refugees, suggesting that this issue be included as a part of the political and peaceful solution in Syria.
During his intervention at a meeting of the International Support Group for Syria held at the end of his New York visit upon the call of US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian FM Sergei Lavrov, Bassil stated that Lebanon supports all actions aiming at ending hostilities or leading to a ceasefire, pointing out that “such situations contribute to the return of the refugees to their country.”
Bassil also indicated that a ceasefire without a political solution did not persist and therefore a political solution can be the basis for a stable situation, with the return of the refugees being the introduction of this solution.
