NNA – Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and the Levant, Yuhanna X Yaziji, arrived in Cyprus on Saturday heading an ecclesiastical delegation, upon an invitation by Cypriot Archbishop Chrysostomos II.
Yaziji began his visit by meeting with Chrysostomos at the headquarters of the Archbishopric in Nicosia, in presence of several bishops.
In a press conference following the encounter, Patriarch Yaziji said the visit was “proof of the strong relations shared between the two countries.”
“The visit of the Archbishop of Cyprus to the Church of Antioch and Damascus, in particular, was of great significance in wake of the Syrian events,” he added.
The Patriarch is expected to preside over a Mass service with the participation of a group of Orthodox youth from various countries of the Middle East.
Yaziji will also meet President Nicos Anastasiades and visit a number of monasteries.
