After his second trip to Saudi Arabia in less than five days, Prime Minister Saad Hariri presented his resignation from the Lebanese cabinet, from Saudi Arabia, on Saturday afternoon.
In his resignation speech, Hariri expressed fears of being assassinated, and said that ” the dominating political atmosphere resembles that which preceded the assassination of my father, the former PM Rafik Hariri.”
Hariri said that Iran has scattered sedition and destruction in the Arab world and concluded, ” I hope that the Lebanese people are able to overcome the internal and foreign guardianship.”
The press office of the Lebanese Presidency issued a statement saying that Mr. Hariri informed the President of his decision by phone, and the President of the Republic was waiting for the return of Mr. Hariri to discuss with him the conditions of this resignation.
In addition, many politicians commented on the resignation, pointing out its unpredictability and the fact that it was announced from a foreign country and not from Lebanon.
