BERLIN (AP) — A 26-year-old Syrian student has become the first refugee to be crowned queen of one of Germany’s wine-making regions.
Ninorta Bahno was crowned ‘wine queen’ of Trier, an ancient town near Germany’s western border with Luxembourg, late Wednesday.
The Syriac Christian, who fled the war in Syria 3½ years ago, will spend the next year representing local winemakers at dozens of events in the Moselle region.
