President Aoun: No Vaccum at Parliment; Cabinet Forms Committee to prepare Electoral Law

The Cabinet met at 11:00 am. this Monday at Baabda Palace where a committee, led by PM Hariri to discuss the electoral law, was formed.

The session was preceded by a meeting between President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister Hariri during which they discussed the latest situation in Lebanon, and shed the light on “Ain-el-Helwe” latest clashes.

Several ministers spoke to the media prior to the session and favored the proportionality law, including Minister of Displaced Talal Arslan, Minister Qanso, Minister Ogassapian and Minister Fenianos; While Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health Ghassan Hasbani rejected the idea of any mandate extending the life of the parliament.

Meanwhile, President Michel Aoun assured during the session that there will be no vacuum in the legislative institution, “the cabinet will begin discussions and our meetings will be open until a result is reached.”

Minister of Information Melhem Riachi concluded the session’s brief by saying that the committee will finish its mission in a short period.
