Paris Gunman known to Security Forces

A police officer died and two are seriously wounded after a shooting took place, Thursday night, near the Champs-Elysee Boulevard in Paris.

French authorities are not eager to declare the attack as a terrorist act, although Paris prosecutors have said that they had identified the suspect, and French officials assured, anonymously, that the suspect had previously been reported as an extremist.

Friday morning, French police searched the home of a career criminal previously imprisoned for shooting police officers and a preliminary photograph of the criminal was released. Karim Cheurfi, 39, has an extensive criminal record, including an attempt to kill two policemen.

Nonetheless, the extremist group, better known as “ISIS”, releases earlier today a statement saying that the attack was carried out by Belgian Isis fighter.
