Lebanese President urges Women to engage in Politics

The committee members of the National Commission for Lebanese Women (NCLW) visited President Michel Aoun on Tuesday and they discussed the rights of Lebanese women.

The committee also thanked the Lebanese President for abolishing “Article 522” of the penal code, which is also known as the “marry the rapist” law. In fact, this law allowed rapists to marry their victims in order to avoid prison.

For his part, President Aoun assured the committee that they will work, hand in hand, to improve the women’s situation in Lebanon, and to adopt an even better law that will protect rights of Lebanese women.

He concluded by asking Lebanese women to get involved in politics and in decision-making.
